Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 21, 2026
Ocean's Freedom ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights.
What we collect
- Account data: your email address (we sign you in with a magic link, no password).
- Things you create: quiz answers and results, dive logs, travel passport entries, marine sightings you submit, and your social profile (handle, bio) if you use the social features.
- Location: if you use the map, conditions, or sightings, we use location to show relevant ocean data. Sensitive species locations are never published with exact coordinates.
- Technical data: device, browser, and usage information, and cookies needed to run the site.
How we use it
To run the service, sign you in, save your logs and results, personalize your experience (including the Vibe companion), show you ocean conditions and the map, send you the emails you ask for, and improve the product. We do not sell your personal data.
Legal bases (where applicable, e.g. for EU users)
Performing our contract with you, your consent (which you can withdraw), and our legitimate interest in running and improving the service.
Who we share it with
- Service providers who help us run the site (our hosting and database provider, our email provider), under confidentiality.
- Affiliate partners: when you click out to book a tour or buy gear, you go to a partner's site under their own terms, and we may earn a commission.
- We share with authorities only where legally required.
Third-party ocean data
The site shows public ocean and marine data from third-party scientific sources. That is not your personal data; it is provided for information and may not be fully accurate or current.
Your rights
You can access, correct, download, or delete your data, and withdraw consent. The site includes a self-serve erase option, and you can also contact us at hello@oceansfreedom.com. EU and other users may have additional rights under local law.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active and as needed to run the service or meet legal obligations, then delete or anonymize it.
International transfers
We use providers that may store data in the USA, the EU, or elsewhere, with appropriate safeguards.
Children
The ocean content (quizzes, map, conditions) is general-audience. The social features are restricted to users 18 and over, and we do not knowingly let under-18 users access them. If you believe a minor has provided data through the social features, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data, though no system is perfectly secure.
Changes
We may update this policy and will post the new effective date here.
